Was absolutely ecstatic to happen upon this adult

Was absolutely ecstatic to happen upon this adult rat snake as I was finishing up my nature adventure yesterday! Rat snakes are a non-venomous species of snake, but they can still bite if provoked. I was prepared for that possibility, but fortunately this individual was pretty darn chill and made no attempts to strike at me. They can be an intimidating species to encounter because of their size, but they pose no threat to humans and do a good job of controlling rodent populations, hence their name. 🐍

Driving out of the park after my mycelial escapade

Driving out of the park after my mycelial escapade yesterday, I spotted something moving along the side of the road. As soon as I saw it was a snapping turtle, which I don’t see out of water that often, I pulled over and ran back to where it was, camera ready. “Snapped” some photos of it and endearingly named it “Blinky” because it appeared to be missing an eye. 🐢
